Hi,

I searched in control panel but I did not find any feature for merging tags in CS.Is this possible to be done in CS 2008 and how..?

And how we can handle duplicate tags..?

Thanks.

Kostis.

tags seem to be managed separately for forums and blogs.

blog tags are handled in   dashboard> My blogs > Manage > Tags - gives a listing of the tags in your blogs - though i havent completed my testing on whether i can rename a tag to another tag e.g. to combine "2wheels" and "two wheels"

forum tags are handled in dashboard> forum moderation> tags > Moderate tags. havent tried renaming two tags together.

this is the standard problem for tagging system - whether to provide a sensible list which users choose from, or let the users enter their own tags with all the misspellings, hyphens, spaces etc which dilute the usefulness of the tags.

Hi and thanks for your answer,

I tested the rename feature and it seems to work ok...I renamed one tag to an existing one and now there is one tag.

Could you tell me what is the standard problem with tags....?

THanks again.

kostis:
standard problem with tags

is that if you leave to the consumers of the site, then you get a very inconsistent approach.  e.g. you didnt tag up your original question at all, whilst i included "Moderation", "tags", "changing" as tags in my reply.  But that means other users will need to know to look at the tag "moderation" to get my response, so perhaps that wasnt a useful tag after all.  Additionally multiple consumers will tag using mispellings etc.

To battle against the inconsistency, the alternative is to provide a tagging structure, and encourage consumers to use it instead, but i dont think CS allows consumers to tag without allowing them to create new tags (even you wanted them to be able to do so).
