I was just wondering... how backwards compatible will CS2008 be with older themes?

I currently use a modified Lean and Green theme, but with the new features such as groups, messaging, etc, will it even be compatible with 2008?

If it won't be, I better get porting my theme to a 2008 version!

Older themes will require a few minor updates to support the features/functionality that existed in CS2007 and still exists in CS2008.  These modifications should be identified closer to the release of CS2008.

Yes, however, quite a few features have changed -- for example, your file and photo gallery themes are no longer supported in CS2008 because these applications were merged into Media galleries.

Additionally, private messages, which were part of the forums application, are now a seperate application and use different controls.

It is possible to upgrade a customized theme, but there will be some areas of the theme that will need to be re-customized.

I would suggest waiting for the beta-2 release before making any customizations for CS2008.  The controls used for the new features (messaging, friends, media gallery) have been modified since beta-1.

Thanks for the detailed response. As long as there is some guidance on modifying themes, I'll not be too worried.

I'm sure I'm not the only one facing this situation.

All the best with beta 2,

Daniel
