Just over a week ago, I'd hardly done more than glanced at IIS, SQL Express, SMTP, and had never heard of Community Server. Now, I have been immersed in a setup process for around 40+ hours of trying to get a server set up so faculty can use the forum as a discussion board, posting and receiving updates via email.
Much to my amazement, we've gotten it to the point of new posts on the forum sending emails, and I feel that we're very close to having CS accept inbound messages and post them... but we're still getting an error. This error is displayed if I run the communityserver.mail.processor.console.exe via a command prompt when I press a key to exit the program. Presumably, it's displayed in the logs when running as a service.

Since I'm about to leave work, I thought I'd toss this out there and see if anyone had any ideas about what is causing this and/or how to fix it. Thanks in advance for your dedication and hard work.
Ugh, and right after I posted I had this link emailed to me. Looks like I've got something new to try in the morning.

Let us know if that doesn't work out for you.
In CS 2007, we no longer use MSMQ, so this should no longer be an issue with it.
I am looking to have the system post by incoming email (essentially, I want all messages going to a specified ListServ to get submitted as posts on my site). Were you (or anybody else, for that matter) able to get this going?
Your help is greatly appreciated!

I did, but with the newer version ofcommunity server. Upgrading to 2007 solved all my woes with next to noconfiguration. I did everything through the GUI and web interface and it workedbrilliantly.

Are you saying that CS 2007 supports posting via incoming email "out of the box", or do you have your own code to do so that works more effectively with 2007? Again, your help is greatly appreciated! Chris
It is somewhat out of the box. The Mail Gateway components are built into CS, however you need to run an external Windows service that does the actual downloading of the email. Since a website is never guaranteed to be running, using it to do that kind of work wouldn't be good.
Even with CS 2.x, you never had to do any of your own coding to support posting via email.
I tried and tried with 2.x and couldn’t get it to work. 40 hoursin one week I messed with it with no luck. The issue may have been exacerbatedby the fact that CS was running in a VM.
Windows Server 2003 has SMTP support, but I ended up using athird party application for email. The server is production level withredundancy, so we weren’t worried about downtime ;-)

Yeah, I had phone contact with the sales rep we were dealingwith. Since I started working on the project just a week or two before 2007came out, he recommended I just install 2007. It worked, and we were happy J
