I know I should be using 2007, but for this project I need to use 2.1 for time being because of a time crunch.  I've setup a couple of cs 2.0 sites and used the default blog site trick of copying a theme over the default blog folder.  This is not working for me for cs 2.1.  Any ideas?  I thought it might be the theme, so I've tried blacksun 2.1 and Kid Congo, but no go.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

Have your tried to restart the web app by touching the web.config file? Sometimes when working with the blog theme files, the fact that they are cached can cause some problems. If not, can you explain exactly what you are doing?

Thanks for the response.  Yes, I changed the web.config file to restart app and closed and re-opened IE just in case there was some caching issue.

Here is the steps I have taken:
- using cs 2.1
- backed up the cs\themes\blogs\default folder
- copied the blacksun theme over the cs\themes\blogs\default folder (note I copied over and didn't delete the default folder and rename the blacksun folder default)
- opened web.config made a change and saved the file (I believe this restarts the app)
- changed web.config back
- closed IE and started again
- signed into my CS site as an already registered user and went to the only Blog I have; still uses original theme
- created a new user by joining my site and went to the Blog; still uses original theme
- Now what?

Some more info:

Last night in my working on the site I got this error when going to the site, signing in as a registered user, and going to the blog.  This is new.  At this point I'm not sure what I did to trigger this.

"[SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.FileIOPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934....' failed.]........"

Why are you trying to do that? Wouldn't it be easier to just point your blog at /Themes/blogs/blacksun in the Control Panel rather than moving files around? One potential problem here is that blog themes use inheritance, so if you don't provide a skin file in /Themes/blogs/[CustomThemeName] then it will try to find the skin file needed from /themes/blogs/default. Because of this, you may find that 'Blacksun' doesn't contain the minimum files required to work properly.

As for the error message you're receiving, this is because IIS doesn't have permissions to access a file(s). You need to make sure that IIS has access to all the files for it to work properly.

Rich, you were correct about the IIS permissions.  I put back the original cs\themes\blogs\default folder and the error went away.

I went to Control Panel (logged in as admin) - Dashboard - Manage 'theBlogName' - Global Settings; and the "Change how my blog looks" to Kid Congo (came with cs install).  Logged out, closed IE, and reset web.config.  I came loged back in and went to the blog, and it's still the default theme. ?

Hmm, that's strange. I don't know what else to suggest at the moment. It certainly should work on that version of CS as I have done it on many sites already. When you go back into the 'Change how my blog looks', has it saved your changes?

I did check if the 'Change how my blog looks' settings took, and the new theme I selected is still there.  No doubt, this is a strange problem.  This is my first CS 2.1 install, so I thought there was something I wasn't doing different from the 2.0 installs I have done.  I'm going to check with my hosting company to see if there are some permission issues.  If there aren't any issues with the site, I'll probably try a reinstall.  :<(
