Hello,

I would like to set it up so that only registered users can see my Community Server.  I browsed through the permission settings and help files and I wasn't able to find out how to do this.

I would also like to set permissions on some forums so that only selected members have read/write privileges.  Is this possible?

Thank you.

I think that you will need to go into the Control Panel and go to the Global Permissions area for each of the Blogs, Photos, Files, and Forums.  If you uncheck all of the permissions for the Everyone role in each area, anonymous users should not be allowed to access those sections.  They will still have access to the main page, and can login from there.

As far as allowing read/write for particular users in one forum, you go to the Forums area of the Control Panel and then the Forums subarea under that.  That will get you a list of the forums on your site.  Clicking the Edit button for a forum will take you to a page that that has User Permissions and Admin Permission for the forum you selected.  You will need to create users with the right roles for how you want to setup your permissions.

Excellent.  Thanks for the help.  I also found that if I remove the  Anonymous user from the Everyone group that forces you to login when you reach the front page.

Can users belong to more than one role group?

Can permissions be assigned to different role groups?

Can permissions be assigned to individual users regardless of the role group they are in?

Can permissions to the same forum be assigned to a role and to individual users.

Thanks,

1) Yes, we have a variety of roles for Registered Users, Moderators, Administrators, Editors, etc.  Users can belong to many roles.

2) Yes, forums allow you to set different permissions for different roles.

3 & 4)  No, permissions can only be assigned to groups, not users.

You can create a role for a user, for example for me I would create a role called "jyoung". And then when creating a forum, file folder, or photo folder just have that user role asigned to it and remove all other roles. Then only that person has access. I'm not sure if this will accomplish what you want or not.

For me, I have file folders in a personal group. I have a few users that has their own personal folder that only they can see and get to. I do this by creating a role for each of those users, and removing all roles from their folder except their role. You can do the same thing with other applications in CS.
