Install/Config of CS in a Server Farm Environment

Looking for guidance on installation/configuration of CS in a Server Farm Environment.  

For example, when a blog is created (or a file/photo uploaded), it appears to be created in a sub site within IIS ( i.e. in IIS Manager "Default Web Site\cs\blogs\sample_weblog" or "Default Web Site\cs\photos\storage\1000.3.1.Sunrise.jpg" )  

 
How does this works in a Server Farm environment?
