CS2008 Cookie authentication - join/register link

I am trying to update the Join link to point to a registration page in my parent application and found an older thread at http://dev.communityserver.com/forums/p/479300/547398.aspx#547398. I am on CS2008 now and the files are different, can someone point me in the right direction?
