Is there a way to restrict access to forums and blogs that are part of a group so that only approved members can view them?

If you mean a group as in the new features to CS2008 which includes one blog, one forum, and one media gallery then just make the group private, and then invite members to that group who need to have access to that group.

IF you mean as in Forum and Blog groups, then in Control Panel, goto Forums / Blogs > Forum / Blog Groups, and press edit next to the group you want to restrict access to.  On the next page, goto the permissions tab of the group you want to edit, and then add the everyone & registered users roles, and make sure they have no permissions defined, and then add roles who you want to give access to view the blog / forum, and give them permission as appropiate.  You may need to create a new role for this.

But if I make the group private, it does not show up as a group with other groups which means that people can't request membership. If I invite, it seems laborius because it looks like the form (from the member link on the group page) only takes one email at a time. So 1) is there a way to make private groups show up with other groups and so that potential members can request membership and 2) is there a way to invite members to a private group in bulk?

Is there a way to assign members to role in bulk, or is it all one by one?

Thanks!

Chris

Try Public (Closed Membership) if you want to allow people to apply to groups themselves, without seeing what's in them.

As for bulk updating, there are no tools out of hte box to do that but it shouldn't be too hard to knock up a page that allows bulk adding to roles.

I do think however that bulk editing tools should be added to CS so it might be an idea to post a feature request for these in a new post on the forum to make sure that Telligent see the request and have a chance to reply to it, as opposed to being burried in a thread where they might miss the request.
