The files I have uploaded to CS2008 are automatically public and viewable to other memebers - do I have ways to mark it as private?

I second this question - how to set "My files" private in user profile?

That's not possible.  The "My Files" feature is very basic allowing only the upload and download of files.  No setting descriptions or things like that.

If you want to have some private files, then you'll have to create a new media gallery and only read permissions to those people who are allowed to view the files.
