Deadlock with cs_user_Get

I have a site that after a promissing start is now experiencing performance issues. cs_user_Get is called very often and is probably the direct link to the going down of the site due to locking issues. Removing "SET Transaction Isolation Level Read UNCOMMITTED" in cs_system_UserIsOnline temporally solved the deadlocking, but now the system found another bottleneck. Anyone else experienced this issue? Or can anyone shed some light on what could be going on before I ferret out the exact issue (this is difficult due to restrictions in the production environment).
