 Hey all,

I am strongly looking at CS.  The thing is I have one absolute requirment.  I must have a Knoledgebase, Wiki or easy to setup content pages.  I need to be able to set permissions, and let people search and read them.  Letting some people edit would be a plus.

Is there anyway to do this in CS?

Thanks!

There is a wiki available for CS (http://codeplex.com/cswiki) however it's a little rough around the edges - at the moment you can't specify per topic permissions, nor can you search wiki articles however, if you had a developer working with you, you may or may not be able to modify that to suit your needs.

An alternative option might be to use CS for your forums and blogs, and install a Wiki or Knowledge Base appliction inside CS - e.g. have CS as http://mydomain.com and have another Knowledge Base or CMS application at http://mydomain.com/kb or http://kb.mydomain.com

yes, I think you should have a look at the group feature of CS 2008 Beta 1. Content Pages are possilbe, but I'm not sure about wiki style linking between them..

There is an open source Wiki for CS 2007 (available from http://codeplex.com/cswiki)  It's a bit rough around the edges but it shouldn't take too long to tidy up if a wiki is essential for your project.

An alternative solution - how many content pages do you need.  If its in single figures, or even low double figures, you may be able to use the Articles facility (Control Panel > Administration > System Tools > Create / Manage Articles) for CS2007.

My current requirements are for about 10 – 15 categories, with a hierarchical breakdown of 8 levels.  Initially about 12,000 records, with at least 500 added monthly.

And as you said, it is incredibly imprortant to my project.  And of course I don't have the budget to just build oneSmile

What bothered me about CS-Wiki was the quote, “It's not complete, and at this moment in time is unlikely to be completed in it's current form."

Telligent has had an on-and-off Wiki as a future feature for CS. In May of 2007 I was told by Telligent sales that a beta Wiki would be released in July. Then it was announced that there would be no Wiki.

The forums at ASP.NET are now running the Wiki that Telligent developed (it is also used on this site for do***entation). When the ASP.NET Wiki was release last month I emailed about it and got this reply from Telligent CEO Rob Howard

So the Wiki seems to be back on the table which is a much needed feature for CS2008 to improve its do***ent publishing capability. Like you I need a large do***ent capacity so I am eagerly awaiting the release (fingers crossed) this time.

 Hi Rick,

Well, the good news is that it's the same code base as the wiki we, Telligent, wrote for http://docs.communityserver.org. We're not planning on releasing this version to the public though. However, we are working on another Wiki that we'll make available in the coming months :)
