SMTP mail isn't working

SMTP mail used to work   But somewhere along the way, people have stopped receiving emails (comments, posts, etc.)  How or where can I look to troubleshoot this?  We are on CS 2.1.

 I do see a few of these in my exception report.  Ideas?

Was there ever a response to this?  I get the same thing and as you can see, the email address is a good one.  I am on CS 2.1.
