I was able to upgrade from 3.0.20611.960 to CS2007.1 on my test server just fine but when I did the exact same thing on my production server, I got this error. I am running the small business edition with the single sign-in add-on.
Please try the following:
You should speak to your web host about this one - Your site may be down or there might be a configuration error.
One quick thing to check - try going straight to the page you want to use (e.g. instead of http://mydomain.com goto http://mydomain.com/default.aspx). If that works, you'll need to set your 'default document' to use default.aspx.

That error isn't a Community Server error, it's a browser 404 error, which means it can't find the page to load.

Turns out the problem was in the communityserver.config file. FYI, when doing an upgrade to Community Server, make sure to double check your config files against the new ones as they can be overwritten and you'll lose all the custom config settings you probably have. I think it would be better if they just gave us the lines to add or subtract in the config files during upgrades to avoid this.
Good point. That's where file comparison tools like WinMerge come in so handy when upgrading.
