Hey everyone.

Having seen what CS can do at Major Nelson and the Windows Vista site, I'm interested in creating a new site using this platform.

I've downloaded the Personal Edition of the CS package and I've uploaded it to my web server in its own directory.

Following the next steps, I navigated to the relevant director to activate the install, however I get the error message:

FORBIDDEN

You tried to access a document for which you don't have privileges.

What have I not done in order for me to have access to the installation?

This web server you say it's your own server?  What is the hosting environment specs?  You must be running IIS 5, ASP.NET 1.1, MS SQL 2000 as the minimum requirements.

Yeah, the web server is my own. I have full admin access to the database and PHP Admin areas.

I'm unsure as to whether IIS5 or ASP.Net is on.  How do I find this out?

I use www.oneandone.co.uk as my hosting company and I am on the Professional Package, which is pretty comprehensive, so I would have thought it'd include that?

Thanks for the reply.

techcastoni,

Looks like you are in a shared hosting environment and not your own server.  This isn't a problem however as if the proper things are installed CS will work.  This is the plan you are on correct?

I would contact them and inquire about ASP.net because it is not listed.  Another problem I see is you have MYSQL databases and not MSSQL2000 or 2005 databases as part of the plan.  I'm not sure if CS works on MYSQL out of the box and think if it does work on MYSQL there are some modifications that are needed to get it working.

Hi.

Thanks for making the checks.

I don't remain hopeful of this but I will get in touch with the host to find out more.

With regards to the modifications, I've basically no knowledge on this platform, should I give up now?

techcastoni,

Don't give up yet... find out from your web host about the ASP.net and the MSSQL database thing before moving forward.  I know the guys here will get you up and running in no time my friend!

I've checked with my host.

My hosting package doesn't have ASP or MSSQL

How and where do I progress from here?

If you haven't pre-paid for like a year or something I would recommend changing web hosts.  I personally use ASPnix.com and I know others on CS use CrystalTech.

Any of those plans are a good start for you and have everything you need to get started.  I can help you getting things set up.
