Hey!

How does cross-posting work, and does the blog in CS support it?

Thanks.

Cross posting allows you post to more than one blog at the same time. Cross posting from Community Server requires that the second blog supports the MetaWeblog API. To enable it, you should take the following steps:

  1. Navigate to Administration > Blogs > Default Settings
  2. Check the "Enable Cross-Posting" option (this applies to the whole site)
  3. Navigate to My Blogs > Global Settings > Default Post Settings
  4. Check the "Enable Cross-Posting" option (this applies to a single blog)
  5. Navigate to "Spam, Ping and Cross-Posting"
  6. Click "Setup a new blog" under "Blogs that will be posted to"
  7. Fill in the form. Help text is provided for all fields, just bear in mind that the URL field needs the address of the MetaWeblog access point supplied, not the public URL of the blog. e.g. if your secondary blog is also running CS, then it would be http://yoursite.com/blogs/metablog.ashx
  8. Save your settings

You should now be able to cross-post!

Just curious, should this also work with updates? Also, should the categories work across the two blogs?

Thanks!

Thanks for the information.  I've got CS running for my family's website.  I have a page for each of my children, and a page for my wife and I.  When I post to one of my kid's pages, I'd like it to post to my main page.  I followed your example and set up the cross posting on the kid's page to point to mine and it didn't show anything as being cross-posted.

Am I missing something?  I looked at the event logs in CS, and it said it couldn't connect to the remote server.  Is there a different string I need to pass since it is a local server?

Thanks!

kmgillen,

Did you ever figure that out? I've got a similar need to "cross-post" within multiple blogs on the same site.
