Hello,

I apologize it this question has been already asked...but what are the options to include a short video ( internal file : avi or mpg or swf) in a blog post?

1/ In which directory should the file be located ? ( ex: welcome.avi file : where should it be ?)

2/ What are the steps to have it posted?

Would it be different if it was an external video ?

Would really appreciate a detailed explanation...

CS 2.1 is great !!

For YouTube videos, Scott Watermasysk has created this CS Module

For Google videos, see this thread

Oh, and I just found the answer to this question also. I haven't used videos so far, so did not have a need to find out. Here is some documentation on this.

Perhaps you can be more specific with your question? If I understand you correctely then the docs on this, as pointed to in a former reply, above; the answer may be as it says ....>>

The 'Video' tab allows you to add a video clip to your post.

Video Url: The Url to the video file. This could be a local file or on a remote site somewhere.

Preview Image Url: This is the image to display before playback of the video. When the page loads, this image will be displayed since the video does not automatically start. If blank, a default "filmstrip" image will be used.

Not sure if this helps?

JD,

The *.avi or *.mpg are the video files that you want to link. So these files should already be present somewhere.

If you have them locally on your PC and want them on the website, you will have to create a subfolder on your website's file structure, ftp the files there, then create the links.

Ex. if you have http://johndoe2005.com, then connect to the site's filesystem using an ftp client and create a folder, say "videos" under the root. Then ftp the files there ex videofile.avi. The URL will then be http://johndoe2005.com/videos/videofile.avi

If the .avi files are in some other website or somewhere else on the internet, then you would give the full path to that file.

haathi?

If I understand the instructions correctely, will the reference to a local file URL like this work?>

file://C:/myfolder/myvideo.mpg   or something of that nature which in turn does an upload? Perhaps they are assuming, in the directions, that you are ON your own server and ref a local URL that way?  I'm not sure now?

Just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents... When you go into edit your post there is no video tab... not until you check the box that says Advanced Options.  Then a bunch of tabs appear and you can add a video there.

However, I'd like to get an answer as to how to stop CS from filtering out tags like EMBED, especially if we can make the filter conditional on certain use roles, such as admins can embed videos but not site visitors, etc.

To add tags and attributes open up your communityserver.config and find a list of tags in there. Just add the stuff you need.

That will allow all users to use them, not just admins.

Hey Gary,

I just installed the newest CS and I cannot make the Videos Play.

They show up on the site, but when I press play no video shows up.  If I try to download, I get a server error.

CS build cs2008-4.0.30417.1769, Windows Server 2008 8.0, IIS 7.0

I heard that only a FEW CS customers are using Win Server 2008 - So I Need some help, probably on the Win Server or the IIS.

My site is www.titube.com/cs-titube - I am debugging now, but I will stop is someone responds to me.

Thanks

I get almost exactly the same problems:

Video added to blog
IE 7 - video player displays, but video just won't play.
Firefox - won't play and requests a plugin that isn't available.

Video added to media gallery in a group
IE7 - video player displays, but video won't play
Firefox - video plays as quicktime

Have tried uploading various different formats: avi, mpeg, wmv - and none work properly.

If you or anyone else has any suggestions, I'd be very grateful. My techie is on holiday!

If you're using IIS7, you'll need to ensure your website's Application Pool is running in the integrated pipeline.
