Editing your content?

Anyone having any problems with cs2.1 and editing your content areas on the homepage? I edited the main section on the homepage, but now when I try to edit it again (double click) I see the screen go gray, but then the page refreshes and I hit the homepage clean again?

I can edit the "Featured item" section.

I also changed the ID of that control, that allowed me to edit it again (it was then empty), after saving it though I'm not able to get in again and edit? I've tried it from multiple machines.

Anyone have any thoughts???

Actually I lied, now that I've edited the "Featured item" control I can't get back to edit that one again either.

I'm having the exact same problem, and it's annoying as all get out!!

What on earth can cause this sort of nonsense? I'm using firefox 1.5 and I've checked: it does the same thing in IE.

Any thoughts, folks?

Cheers!

Which editor are you using, btw?

I switched back to FTB from tinyMCE because of a few weird issues similar to this.

!

Well....now we can see exactly how inexperienced I am at this...I'm a hardware geek.

See, you've just asked me what model sewing machine I'm using, and I'm now staring blankly at my needle and thread...I'm *NOW* attempting to figure out how to set up Free Text Box to work with my site, but the readme is meant for people who don't spend the whole day with soldering irons...I'll get back to you.

I guess the initial question still stands, though, and it brought me here: if it says, "Double-click to edit" why is it only available to edit upon double-click once, and isn't it meant to be editable without FTB or some such? Aren't we supposed to be able to go on and work in this manner?

Thanks!

I'm having an issue similar to this.  I added Google Adsense to the top and bottom sections.  The first problem is that the banner takes up the whole section and trying to double-click edit makes you click on the ad.  The second problem, occasionally after refreshing a few times, the ad doesn't show up in the bottom section.  At this point I have the same problem as Rscrvc, 'double-click to edit this content' shows up, but double clicking does nothing.

Now here's an interesting point that will possibly mean something to those of you who know more than I (not saying much..)-

I did flush my cache more than once when first experiencing this anomaly, and it didn't do anything different when returning to that field to edit. No love.

I can double-click in a different area and open it for editing, though I've yet to edit and save based on the weird reaction on the first field editing. Mind you, this is a baby-fresh installation, so it still says "Community Server" and all. If, after touching another field, I go back to the field that won't let me edit it, I get a warning about post-data. And if I say, "OK," to go ahead and refresh, it KILLS firefox. I let error reporting submit the bugs/errors to firefox, of course, because everyone should have part of this fun.

So- this has been my experience so far, and yet- dumping my cache again, I tried it once more for good times: I got a flash, where the rest of the home page greyed out and I saw what wanted to be a pop-up to let me edit...then it went away. Intrigued, I hit it again- and it OPENED!!!

I can again edit that field. Of course, I'm afraid to, because it might lead to Homeland Insecurity at this rate, but isn't that odd?

Any takers?

Cheers.

I've tried changing my editor to "enhanced" as well as "plain text" with no luck on this.

To be very clear, it isn't supposed to behave like that...  Smile

There have been times where I have edited those fields repeatedly for 5-10 minutes.

Is there anything else you can mention about your site configuration that might help with the troubleshooting?

I ended up having to pull up the cs_content table in my database and deleting the two rows that had StandardTop and StandardBottom in them.

It's a brand new site, 2.1 running asp.net 2.0

another solution would be to...

If you have access to the databse; you could manually browse to table dbo.cs_Content and delete values in columns, 'body' and 'formatted body'  where Name = StandardBottom and StandardTop.

I hope this helps Wink
