I was wondering if Email Gateway Add-on has it's own SMTP Server engine or if it uses a existing SMTP Server.

If it uses a existing SMTP server how does it work?

I couldn't find info about this.

The Mail Gateway does not have its own SMTP server.  Instead, it works with existing mail systems be either connecting to its own mailbox over POP3/IMAP, or it can read messages from a spool/queue directory on the filesystem.  Some SMTP servers, like the IIS Virtual SMTP Server, can simply write all the messages it gets to a folder, and then Mail Gateway can grab them from there.

Will the CS mail gateway connect to Google Apps for your Domain (or any other SMTP server that uses SSL or TLS)?

If so, how would I configure it to use SSL? And where do you specify the port number? Thanks.
