Hi All,
I have launched my website www.fuzzydev.com using CommunityServer 2.0. Honestly speaking it was a pleasant experience, thanks to the CommunityServer team for this great software.
Like everone in this community, even I had teething problems during installation and customization. But found solutions to my problems through the thousands of threads and ofcourse googling.
Customization was a bit of pain as there is no proper documentation on this subject, when I say subject I mean at the granular level.
If we had a structured document for skinning it would have been really helpfull.
Anyway, I would like to share my experience with you all. Very first thing I did to customize my website is installed the IE developer toolbar (there is one for Firefox too but I don't remember the name). This tiny toolbar guided me by showing each and every css class mapping.
So I started with the default skin and using the css class information provided by IE dev toolbar I was able to hunt down each and every HTML elements css file and changed the colors the way I wanted.
One by one everything started to fall in place and as you can see the finished product is not that bad. You would have noticed that the work area in my website is large this is so because I have reduced the left and right padding in the Common class to 4px.
Other than the color changes, I have modified the footer area and ofcourse the navigation menu.
Comments, Suggesstions, Criticism will be appreciated.
Regards,
Sachin Joshi
