On another thread there was a suggestion to have an Event Calendar added to Community Server for 2.0.

We won't be able to do this for 2.0 since we're in feature lock down but it's something that we can look into for CS 2.x.

So, this post is to ask what you all would like to see in an event calendar. What I'm after is what level is the calendar at, is it one calendar for the entire app, or 1 calender per site, or even multiple calendar's per site (at the group level). What kind of actions would users be able to perform? What kind of roles would you like and how do they map to the rights?

Just sound off with your ideas.

Thanks, Terry

I think it would be great if you could have multiple calendars that you could assign roles to similiar to forums where say one could have a family calendar and a community calendar that only members of those roles could view and edit.

My last big job before moving out to seattle is to set up a calender system for the company.  What fun :(

after looking at all the products out there, here is what were going with http://www.kerio.com/kerio.html (we just need the calendar).

We need to be able to create an event.  we need to be able to invite people to the event.  This is on a group calendar and there can be x many groups.  If I accept an invitation, I'm added to the event.  Then, it also shows up on my personal calendar.

What no calendering system does now is, shows me any conflicts by accessing a personal calendar.

the UI is just your basic calendar layout, no need for anything else.

iCal - its important that the macs not only can see their calendar in iCal, but if you guys figured out how to get the mac iCal client to actually Publish - wow.

And outlook/enterage (no one here uses enterage) support.

Notifcation service to fire off notifications x (time) before event.

The CS api lends itself fairly well to this model - it won't be easy, but much easier than from scratch thats for sure! good luck

Basically I think it should be in sync with the things discussed in this forum. I have even contributed to a feature set documentation available there!

Didn't Telligent do a calendar for one of their clients' CS installs? Can't you use that?

Possibly. That assumes.....

a) it was written such that it could be repurposed for general consumption. The calendar was written at a time when we weren't looking at everything with the idea that it would be folded back into CS.

and

b) it meets the requirements of the users of CS...I think that is what Terry is trying to find out now.

WebDAV support would be awesome  - BTW, what the hell is WebDAV anyway?  Its just a type of ftp with some locking support right?

And is having WebDAV on the server the only way to get the mac clients iCal synchronize?  On the Mac you have a .Mac account.

On the pc, well I guess you could have a .CS account for registered members - with 100 megs space :P

I see, what was the link to the website where it's at?

Were you referring to the one at Crossfader [Crossfader Calendar]?

Yeah, i'd be happy with that if it could be easily added to CS2.0.

That is what I based my spec on.

So do you want to see the events in a calendar control, or more blog like where the events are listed similiar to the way blog posts are listed?
Thanks, Terry

I was thinking it would be easier to add it as a blog like display using a calendar control to scroll through them. Architecturally, I would add it almost exactly like a blog, but require post DATE and TIME to be set and default them to blank. Seems like a simpler in my little mind that way.
