Not sure if anyone else has experienced this but I just set up a CS 2008.5 site and notice that from time to time I have problems posting to the forums part of the site.  I have yet to make any changes to CS and it is as Telligent packaged it.  I don't see any exceptions in the log... quite simply CS just hangs up.  Sometimes if I navigate away and then navigate back either the message actually ends up getting posted or if it doesn't at the very least the forum posting starts working again.  It is always that initial attempt at posting that just hangs up.  Any thoughts?

Update:  Now it seems to hang up more often than not despite the activity on the site.

By design CS works on the principal of caching content and requires frequent hits to keep content updated. Sites with little or no activity can suffer as a result. One work around is to lower the 'cacheFactor' setting in communityserver.config, the default setting is '5'. Quite a few posts have been made about this recently, might be worth checking the existing posts in this (bugs and issues) forum to see what the optimal setting is.

It also sounds like a your IIS worker process is shutting down frequently, if you have access to the IIS console try upping the idle timeout limit to more than the standard 20 mins.

Thanks... I'll look into those things and let you know if I have any success.  It is odd that it only seems to affect the posting and nothing else seems affected.

Update:  When all else fails scour the blog of Dave Burke and voila... you will get the answer you so desire.  I'll update further after I see if this works.

So far... seems to be working.  No longer get the errors when I initially try to post after a period of inactivity.  Now I just need to... errr... get activity on my site. Big Smile

Also it seems to happen after I restart the site or it has not been active for a while.

Follow up:  Seems independant of the site activity now that I've been testing it.  Sometimes it just takes forever and the post goes up... other times the post is immediately successful.
