I have a group which is set to Public Closed membership. It doesn't matter whether the user is not authenticated, they can still see all groups and the content of media files.

I am assuming this a bug. See http://dev.communityserver.com/forums/p/498859/618698.aspx#618698
I have manually modifed the SiteURLS.config to hide the navigation for "Groups" but a knowledgble user could still visit the url.

Private groups work (hide content), but then users can't request membership..not that membership seems to make any difference.

Any suggestions? Am I missing something?

FYI my version is 4.0.30619.63 (2008 SP1)

Sounds like the same issue I've got. Currently non members of Publice Closed groups can still see the content (and download the content.)

You can read more about the Group Types HERE

It is only in Private groups where non members cannot see the content...but they also can't see the groups, which doesn't help much.

CS2008.1 will have Private Listed and Unlisted group types, as per Ben's reply HERE

Thanks for the post.

So CS2008.1 is not CS 2008 SP1? I read that post previously but thought it was something included in SP1.

I understand the group types better now, not that i find them that useful. i think our scenerio/request where "the user can see the group list and request access but cannot view group content unless they are a member" is much better.

For the moment i think i'll disable groups as they're not that useful to me right now...in fact they are detrimental to the security model i'd like.

Thanks again. I'm looking forward to "Private Listed".

PS do you know the timeframe for CS2008.1 (will this be SP2?)

Hi Andrew

SP1 was only a service pack...to correct a few bugs etc.

.1 is a new version...so we'll see some new functionality, more about that HERE

We are aparently a couple of weeks away from the beta release

Regards

Andre
