Activity friendships post SP1

SP1 fixed an issue where the notification about new friends was missing from the activity list. But now, it puts 2 entries for each new friendship, i.e.

Alan and Bill are now friends

Bill and Alan are now friends

This is quite annoying. Is there anyway we can have it just list the fact that Bill and Alan are now friends once??

Since a message is "owned" by a single author, we would have to decide which person gets to log the relationship. The one who initiates or the one who accepts. This would then mean that only friends of the selected side would see that the relationship exists. So, unfortunately, with the current architecture, there is no simple way to resolve this. In a future release, we'll likely address it but for now we opted to go with duplicate messages (only if you're a friend to both people) instead of missing out half the time.

While it may not help, hope it makes sense.
