IF you see "You are not authorized to use this service" then this means that the currently logged on SharePoint user does not have the same name in  Community Server. This is a bug and is being noted.

To temporarily work around, have the user create an account in Community Server with the same name as the username they have in AD.

I did run into this while testing - I had a page open in SharePoint and authenticated properly with the web part visable.  I deleted my account from the CS site, refreshed the page and got this error.  Refreshing (F5/Shift-F5) didn't help, I had to open a new browser, re-authN and then it recreated my account and I could load the page properly.

I'm getting the "You are not authorized to use this service" message when I call the CS 2008 API.  Any idea what is causing this? I double checked I'm using the correct site url, username and apikey.

Thanks in advance.

This error can occur from a few issues. Here are some to check:

1. Is REST Enabled in Community Server

2. Does the username that is configured in SharePoint belong to the role that can access the REST service. If not add them in Community Server

3. Does the user account that you're using in SharePoint exist in Community Server. Some actions, since you'll be authenticating via your logon name in SharePoint will not work unless your usernames match. (MayPreview assumes AD to AD account names without the domain)

Try those and let me know if it works. thanks!
