Hi,
Is there a way to password protect an individual forum?
Also, how can I edit/delete the Home page.
Thanks,
Mike
Same query... a must need function. Second, why do I have to wait 30 or more seconds for each page to respond... having many on test forum post two and three times because they are not waiting. Used to Apache based forums that are MUCH-MUCH faster. This is a REAL problem with this product and getting more bulky and slower as it gets to be a larger program.
I am running on a full dedicated T3 and can smoke the pipe up & down but still have terrible lag in responses from the Network Solutions Server that I am testing the product on.
A real dissapointment to date. Are there others that might be able to help with the Secure or Private and then the Public area separation of a forum housed at a single server. This is a must!!! No answer after a week... quite strange...
Password protected forums are not available in CS as Password protecting a forum is often a very weak solution - it only takes one user to let the password slip to compromise the security of the forum.
CS does however let you to define permissions on a forum based on Roles. For example on CS.org, there is a "Customer Questions" forum which is only viaible / useable by those in the "Gold Support" role, which is assigned to users who buy Maintenance with CS. Roles can be created through the Membership section of the Control Panel, whilst permissions for a form can be managed by going to Forum Administration, selecting the appropiate forum and going to the User Permissions and Admin Permissions tabs and defining roles there. (N.B. you'll probably have to remove all permissions from Everyone and Registered Users to ensure that they don't override your custom permissions). If you're using CS2008, you can also set permissions for a Group of Forums.
As for your response time issues, how do you define those. It's an unavoidable issue that the first page load with CS takes a long time as CS has to start the tasks service, and load all the dataproviders etc., however after this initial refresh the site should continue to run at a decent speed until IIS shuts down the Application Pool containing CS. On a similar note, I would also suggest that you make sure if you're using CS2.1 or 2007, you're running CS2.1 SP3 / CS2007.1 SP1 respectively, which you can download from http://get.communityserver.com/download/moredownloads.aspx.
Lastly, the main reason why this question probably hasn't been answered is that it's in the CS2.1 forum, and most people have since moved on to 2007 or 2008, with few people checking the 2.1 forums.
