This is not supported out-of-the-box. It would require a custom file viewer for video services that support preview images and some additional video processing logic to extract a preview image from local video files.

The markup used when embedding a video is defined in the media/embed.aspx page within a theme. Any content can go in this page, so, yes, it could render the preview of the video (which, by default, would be an icon) and a link to view the video in your Community Server site.
how to find the media/embed.aspx page? It's not found.
The file location is %CS Root%\Themes\%theme%\Media\embeddedpost.aspx

I see. I wish somehow we can have it, the preview of the 1st frame. It's much better for we can have a list of video with preview. But it's some extra work anyhow. Thanks anyway.

That will require video transcoding for CS. When we decided to do it just like how youtube does video we had to go all the way with flv encoding. So now we've 3 types of thumbnails - for video player, for gallery lists and for control panel. Also we found it very useful to allow user to select any frame as a thumbnail. In post editor you can play movie in player, then at any time you press "preview thumbnails" button and then you get 4 thumbnails to select (with 0.25 sec step between frame).

I'm having trouble embedding a video from my media gallery into a blog post. YouTube videos work fine, but not *.flv file's saved to my media gallery. This should be simple... what am I missing?
Is the proper url as follows... http://mysite.com/media/p/73/embed.aspx

To insert a video from a media gallery into a post, click on the Insert Media button on the text editor's toolbar (), then press browse and then select the appropiate video from your Media Gallery.

Try using [ View:%Relative Url of Media%], if it still doesn't display the media, then the File Viewer for FLV isn't in CS

I was pasting the url of the video into the Insert Media dialog box (when it was playing in the Media Gallery) rather than browsing to the actual file in Media Gallery... similar to a YouTube embed.
As a side note... I've learned a LOT from the both of you (Nick & afscrome) on these forums. Just wanted to let you know I very much appreciate the time folks like you spend teaching us newbies!
