So sad, Telligent dropped the photo gallery and provide a funny media gallery instead. Can't understand how they made such an error. They kicked our ass by abandoning all of us using photo galleries extensively.
Can only add my voice to the Media Gallery look / feel debate. As a massive user of the Photo Gallery, being one of the major under pinning factors of our website, I feel quite let down by the decision to converge the file and photo elements.

Yes, the new Media Gallery needs to be looked at. My community is another one that users just visit mostly to look at pictures. We need a better way to organize this pictures, either by albums or maybe just folders if possible.
i totally agree i really don't like they it works now atleast can somone post a theme or an way to make it run the old way? i know teh code in behind is different but there must be a way to make it "look" like it is seperate?

I have to agree. Our sites are used more for document sharing than photo galleries right now, though that might change as a result of a project we have going. Users interested in documents are not going to want to wade through photos and vice-versa. I don't foresee us moving to 2008 either.
And add my vote to that for allowing users to view these either as a list or thumbnails. The thumbnails might look good for photos but getting a whole screen of 'pdf document pictures' isn't helpful to anyone. (Not to mention the fact that it seems slower to load as well).
Is there any more news on this? Esp auto-creating galleries for new users.

There used to be an option in CS2007 (/controlpanel/photoadmin/options/generaloptions.aspx) to auto-create new galleries for new members, do you mean this is not the case in CS2008? If so that's sunk the nail in the coffin for us and CS2008! What are there thinking removing this feature
Dave:this is not the case in CS2008?
Not as far as I can see, Dave. It's very disappointing. All users can upload pictures (and other files) to their profile pages but these files do not seem to appear in the Media Files section.
This is a massive concept change to introduce to existing communities and I think will be difficult for them to cope with.
Quite a strange decision and I hope we get some feedback from Telligent on it soon.

I hope this update is sooner than later. Any update?
Has anybody successfully modified the look of the CS 2008 Media Gallery to look more like the CS2007 version?

Well, I can only hope that an update is soon - VERY soon. Scott's reply to this issue is over 6 months old, so I hope Telligent makes a move on this before they lose a large contingent of customers over this issue.

Hey Guys,
I posted the feature request, "Media Galleries need themes just like BLOGS have", as this is a much broader issue than has been expressed on this thread. Take a look at what I've posted as it should take care of absolutely everyone's needs.
Take it easy,Bill

afscrome, that is definitely an improvement! This 2008 Media Gallery is really the only reason I have not upgraded. It is not usable for documents.
I like Bill's idea too. I hope the Telligent folks are noting this too.
Hi All,
Just a quick update. There are some minor updates to the Media Gallery UI which will be part of 2008.1.
There is also a pretty significant feature update planned for 2009 which should give you many more options for customizing "sections" than we have ever offered in the past. We plan on sharing some more info on this at in.telligent 2008 and then will post it to the public afterwards.
Thanks,Scott
Thanks for the update Scott. I was waiting for something to get announce and will upgrade my site as soon as the beta is release.
