I downloaded CS 2007 then went through the installation process and all seemed to go well. When I log in as admin none of the left hand navigations buttons are showing.

I then downloaded again and uploaded pages to site . Still same problems. I do notice that during the FTP uploading process I get a McFee Virus alert

Any ideas

a) get rid of mcafee

b) McAfee is having a fit about the*.js files which are the javascript files

Thanks for coming back to me Nick. Are you saying that Mcfee is stopping the uploading of the .js file that runs the menu

Cheers

Powderworks,

Nick is definitely onto something here, but I don't think McAfee is to blame.

The ComponentArt controls are all javascript-intensive, of course, but instead of McAfee could there might be a network proxy disabling certain javascript.

A "WebResource.axd" file is created by the menubar, so you'll want to make sure IIS supports .axd files.  It probably does, but its something to check.  (IIS Manager->properties->home directory->app config->file extensions.)

Any 3rd Party ISAPI extensions?  The ISAPI extension could be configured to verify that the file exists, which hits the request pipeline before ASP.NET does.  And because webresource.axd does not physically exist, the ISAPI extension would return an HTTP 404 error.

We could be dealing with an incomplete install.  All CP menubar support files are located in \controlpanel\images.

It may be a permission issue.  Has the cp/web.config been modified or has the user's roles been changed?

Does the /ControlPanel/SetupNavBar.config file exist?

One other possible cause could be a change in the <httpModules> section in the web.config file.  If CS is in a virtual directory, this section can contain a <clear /> tag that someone would add to prevent CS from inheriting the settings of the root website. Removing the <clear /> tag has been known to restore the left-hand navigation links in the Control Panel.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,
Dave

Hi Dave

I decided to upload CS2007 again to a managed server I have. Again McPhee comes up with a virus alert. This is the Alert

File 07.11 22_14.24 #000129.log

Virus Name: Univ.script/99a

It occurs when the Themes folder is being uploaded.

This has happened on 3 uploads now

I will continue with the set up and check the things you suggested.

I completely missed the McAfee alert on upload.  Nick nailed it the first time.  Glad you've got it working.

Regards,
Dave
