OutdoorEd:Messaging and Email Gateway1. With a completely rewritten messaging component where does the Email Gateway component fit in? Is that still a requirement for subscriptions to Forums or is it now deprecated?Posting some of the new documentation for CS 2008 now (presuming that it exists) would really help all of us start to understand the new features and how we will have to adapt our current operations to work with the new product.

Rick, to be clear, you never needed Mail Gateway in order to have forum subscriptions, and Mail Gateway was always separate from Messaging (in terms of Private Messaging, which is now its own component).
Mail Gateway has been needed for bi-directional email support, where you can email a message into your forum. It is still required to do this. However, normal email notifications continue to work just as they did in CS 2007 without Mail Gateway. Messaging itself doesn't benefit from Mail Gateway at all, as Mail Gateway never integrated with private messages.
Hi Rick,
Now that we're closer to getting the first beta out the door, we will definitely begin to provide more details. In the meantime, let me take a quick stab at your questions.
OutdoorEd: Groups 1. If you create a Group that's by default private and people join and you also have open Forums, do the Group Members have access to all of the open forums or only the Group? That is, do they have to create two profiles or will they just run off one profil?

Users will still have a single profile. To view any content within a group, you'll need to go that that group and then navigate to either the forum, the blog, or the media gallery. From there, the application will work similarly to when you access the general forums/blogs/gallery outside of the group context. (Did that answer the question?)
OutdoorEd: Media Gallery 1. Does the Media Gallery handle remote links as well as files on the site? For example, can it handle links to YouTube or other videos or will it only display files that have been uploaded to the Community

Similar to the old file gallery, Media Gallery will support both local uploaded files and remote files. We have added support for numerous image, audio, and video viewers, including major online video services (YouTube, Google Video, MySpace TV, SoapBox,...) Give us the link and we'll render the appropriate viewer.

Messaging is *not* a new notification system, so it works at a different level. Our messaging layer is what supports conversations, micro-blogging, profile comments, and activity logging.
Hope that helps...
One is glad to be of service...
This seems to work well
