Welcome to Community Server Forum Search Tips!  This document will evolve over time, but we're going to begin with some of the basics.

The first thing you want to do when you come to the forums with a problem or question is to perform a search to find existing information on that topic.  Most issues raised here on the forums have already been discussed in one manner or another.  Furthermore, adding posts to existing threads will alert the participants of the original conversation and promote greater feedback.

There's a context-aware search box at the top right-hand corner of CS Forums.  Use it!  You may wish to search more broadly and then narrow your search criteria, so check to make sure you select "Community Server (group)" to select all Forums, rather than a single Forum.

You may also click the "Search" button which displays the forums search form.  The search form has several options, one of which is the type of record retrieval you would like.  "Relevance" is the default value.  If you want to see the most recent discussions on the topic first, select "Newest First."

Search Syntax

This is a very important topic, as you can use several tricks found here to greatly improve your search results.  We can narrow our search to a specific field, by author, use wildcards, boolean logic (and, or, not) and exact phrase searching.

Rather than repeat existing content, please see this page in Community Server Docs.
