I've only used AdSense so can't help, but very interested to know of others' experiences. I believe the Google AdSense terms forbid using their ads on a page with anyone else's ads of the same type, but there's unlikely to be anything stopping a site from rotating between them.

It seems some are having good success with Chitika eMiniMalls and it appears these can be used alongside AdSense ads. I've also been experimenting with www.contextcash.com (affiliate links automatically applied to key words in page body content) with very limited success, and amd also talking to Vibrant Media about using their system where they put ads on key phrases in body content . I'm aware these systems can annoy the hell out of users, so they need doing carefully (although a good thing with Vibrant's IntelliTXT system is users can set a cookie through the UI to turn them all off - interestingly their research suggests few do that).

Some time I may well try rotating all three of the main ad systems. I'd love to know how the rates differ.

Ollie,

I've been lurking around a bit on the general subject of revenue growth adsense, etc. and found your posts to be quite lucid.  You obviously have a bit of experience in this area and I am brand new to it.  So my question is do you know if adSense T&C's would be violated if I add some code that does not modify theirs in any way but simply gives me more information regarding which ads were clicked on.  The current adsense reports are pitifully inadequate IMHO.

I know they're working on  something called "AdSense Analytics" but that seems to be quite far off.  I know how to accomplish it but I don't want to violate their T&C's or Program Policies.  I've read them pretty carefully and I don't think my solution violates the spirit of them but it's kind of on the edge if you read it literally.  I've read some pretty horrible stories about people being banned from the program without warning or recourse in spite of Googles stated policy saying that they will work with the publisher to resolve incidents of "invalid or fraudulent" clicks.

I've tried to get a response from adsense-addclicks@google.com but all I got in return was a canned response saying that they do not "encourage or endorse" any third party click trackers and it's up to me to make sure that any software I use does not violate their terms. Not a very helpful response.  I certainly am not interested in violating their terms but I would like to get better reporting to help improve  my sites performance.

Thanks!

I am aware of at least one product that bolts onto a PHP site to provide stronger reporting for AdSense clicks, and it's called AdSense Tracker. My sense therefore is that these tools do not pose a problem to the AdSense Terms of Service, at least the way some have implemented them.

All I would suggest is going back to AdSense with a more specific plan, stating exactly what data you'd collect, how you'd collect it and what you'd do with it. If you say "this is what I'm planning to do, is this ok?" then it seems you may get a more helpful response.

I hadn't heard of AdSense Analyitcs, but I did see an article describing how to do tracking via Analytics.

I agree about AdSense reporting - it's very poor. Channels help a lot, but there's so much more information I'd like to see about performance. It benefits both me and Google for that information to be shared as it helps me optimise and makes both parties some more revenue, so I expect in time the improvements will come.

New MSN AdCenter is awesome! They are still fixing some bugs.

Hello Ollie

I've been to Chitika eMiniMalls website and found they serve ads same as google adsense does. I assume using them on same webpage as adsense may be againt adsense T&Cs. But dono they state on their website its not. Have you got any idea?

I wish they would integrate Passport with adCenter. Seems odd that they would not require Passport authentication for the site.

Is the MSN AdCenter for Advertisers only?  I don't see anything about Publishers on their site.

 Thanks,

Yahoo is your best bet after Google.  Be very careful with Google.  They can kick you off payment for nearly any reason.  And there is no real recourse if you think you have been wrongly booted.  No warning either and they won't give you any info.  MSN was supposed to come out with an adsense deal back in 2006 but it seems they have scrapped the plans as far as I can tell.  The thing is that if they don't have enough demand for their own ads (on msn's search) then why pay other people to house the ads on their sites?  Basically, MSN hasn't commanded enough traffic.  Google has so much traffic and so many people clamoring for adwords ads that they need to distribute the traffic in order to keep the prices from just skyrocketing.

But there are better income sources than yahoo or google.  The only thing I haven't found a good replacement for is the google search code where you can put a google search on your website and make money from ads that people click on.  That is still the best.  Although I am looking into some other options.  I may even develop something that would work even better than google's adsense search.  Smile  I have my gurus looking at it for me.
